Eel Conservation

The Eel is a fascinating and remarkable species, shrouded in mystery and with many aspects of it's mysterious life cycle still unanswered...

Several studies that have taken place over the past few years which have identified that European eel numbers are in decline... That much so that the amount of European eel's arriving each year is up to 90% lower now than they were in the 1980's...There drastic decline has meant they are now listed as a critically endangered species on the IUCN Red List.

This sustained decline cannot be allowed to continue... Several eel conservation groups have emerged and there many on-going projects to help the Eel recover.

Please explore this page, there are links to conservation articles along with video clips about Eel conservation projects...

Above all, please remember if you catch an Eel by accident or design always ttreat it with respect and return it alive... Eel's are rare.... Treat them with care..!
